It's been three days on the road, since you've been contacted by the Inquisition to help solve a strange murder case.

The letter you received spoke about a monk who died earlier this week under stranger circumstances at the abbey Saint Laurence of Valfranc in the French Alps.

The day is January the 30th 1346, it's freezing cold in the mountains and you didn't take any breaks since the city of Grenoble.

A soft snow covers the ground all around you, just enough to enhance the natural beauty of the landscape.

After a few leagues (1 league approx 5km) the road is obstructed by a landslide. Your guide signals you to dismount and you lend your horse to a local farmer.

You have no choice but to continue your journey on foot.

In the distance you see the white tower of the abbey suspended above a cliff.

The last hours of climbing are harsh and you are forced to follow a narrow and slippery path with nothing but a rope to cling to.

When you finally arrive at the abbey, you wonder how anyone could build such a massive building in such a remote area.

With the roads cut by the winter landslides, the monastery live is total isolation, eating it's own stock of food and patching their own clothes.

You are amazed at the size of the building and the diversity of the monks present. As if all Christendom wanted to enjoy the stunning landscape.

The abbot is waiting for you in the apothecary, he have been warned of your arrival.

You can also decide to visit the abbey by yourself before meeting him.
